The Summa of St Thomas

Torrell approaches Aquinas as a theologian, and he attaches special value to St Thomas as a 'contemporary' Christian thinker.

This book is not aimed in the first place at scholars.

It is aimed at the general reading public and at students - students of philosophy, theology, political and social thought.

Drawing on his enormous scholarship, Torrell aims to give his readers a sense of what Aquinas was up to in the Summa, his greatest achievement. And he aims to do so as a disciple - indicating the value of the Summa from a Christian perspective.

There is no other book that does this. There are hefty studies of Aquinas in general and there are some brief introductory studies but nothing like Torrell's book.
