Adaptive Antenna Component Specification

See all formats and editions

This is one of a series of reports on the application of adaptive antennas to the next generation of mobile communications systems.

This project, "Technology in Smart Antennas from Universal Mobile Infrastructure" (TSUNAMI), funded under the European Commission's RACE programme, is being undertaken by a consortium of seven European organizations led by ERA.

This report gives the specifications of the RF components required for both the DECT testbed and a full UMTS employing AAs.

It covers the components in the transceivers from the basebad input signals through to the configuration and geometry of the antenna array elements.

After looking at UMTS operating environments and cell types, the report studies transmitter and received architectures.

Other considerations, including direction-finding and beam-forming algorithms and logarithmic amplifiers for extended dynamic range are discussed.

Transmitter and receiver component specification is examined, together with calibration schemes.

Finally, antenna specification is dealt with, including antenna elements, and linear, circular and planar arrays.

Useful conclusions and references are drawn.
