The aim of this dictionary is to provide an up-to-date reference book which, by including the most recent developments in the textile field generally.

An effort has been made to keep the number of terms limited to those actually required for technical purposes.

The emphasis is therefore on specialized terms with a minimum of general ones which have been included only because they recur frequently in textile translations.

The terms have been selected over the years from "live" sources, such as manuals and catalogues of textile machinery manufacturers, international publications in several languages, standards, patents and so on.

Textile operators have also been consulted. The following subject areas are covered: textile machinery and equipment; textile fibres and goods; textile operations and processes; textile chemicals and tests; sewing, knitting and embroidery; making-up, fashion and accessories; colours and patterns; business and trade.
