1968 was the year when humans first glimpsed the far side of the Moon, but also the year the world was shocked by assassination, by the crushing of hope for reform and by wars that showed no sign of ever ending.

To the old there seemed too much change, too quickly, with youth in revolt, though against what no one was entirely sure ... 'Hey Jude', sang the Beatles, with a refrain that lingered long into the summer night, 'Don't make it bad, take a sad song and make it better'...
