RAF in camera, 1950-59

The 1950s witnessed the RAF at its post-war peak as it made its transition to the jet age.

These rare and unusual photographs from the archives of the RAF Air Historical Branch showcase some of the stunning colour photographs of the RAF from this period.

Most were taken by RAF photographers and cover all kinds of aircraft-related activity, both at home and overseas, when the RAF still had many bases around the globe that provided exotic settings against which to photograph aircraft and personnel.
