Quick Guide: The Wars

The story of the novel revolves around a young Canadian officer in the First World War.

Robert Ross, the nineteen-year-old, young officer happens to be in grief after his sister's death.

He also suffers from the norms of oppressive Victorian upper class society.

To escape his precarious and grieved presence in the society, he enlists in the Great War.

He is soon surrounded by the madness of Great War. Everywhere there is death, but he is able to make his commitment to life.
