This text contains the second evaluation of the eighth report on the world health situation in the Eastern Mediterranean region.

WHO member states periodically monitor and evaluate the progress made in the implementation of their national strategy of "Health for All".

A regional meeting was held in Tunis in 1990 and member states were requested to submit their reports by January 1991.

However, because of the Gulf War, most countries in the region could not submit their reports on time and the deadline had to be extended more than once.

Three countries had not submitted their report when the regional report was being prepared: Kuwait, Somali and Yemen.

For them, the latest data available in the Regional Office was used instead.
