In Vivo Body Composition Studies

This volume constitutes the proceedings of a conference on in vivo body studies, held on October 7th-10th, 1999.

The participants in these proceedings present findings on body composition issues made possible by increasingly sophisticated measurement tools that have direct application in a variety of clinical settings, for gynaecology, nutrition and endocrinology.

New knowledge areas include the definitions of intervention thresholds in treatment of the obese and underweight, which are important to clinicians who must balance the consequences of treatment side effects against health gains.

Body composition changes during the course of AIDS are calibrated, and new ratios of extra- to intra-cellular water have been benchmarked using these techniques.

New instrumentation design and future applications for the technologies that have yielded these advances are also presented in the volume.
