Elevating the mundane is a common tack as old as history.

Genesis 3:1 "Did God actually say, 'You shall not eat of any tree in the garden'?" Everything was available save for two trees. One rule, mundane, simple, and plain; yet, it was raised into the utmost of importance. "Did God say?", belittling the important is a standard opening when negation is the goal. Raising the common into a self-stylized epic occurrence lowers the ability to see the true battle. There is no battle against cancer, one does not bravely fight against cancer, I was not courageous undergoing chemotherapy. I, like you, just live.
