Macbeth is one of Shakespeare's most compelling and alluring plays.  It reflects the rise and fall of a tragic hero, Macbeth.  He meets the witches and receives a prophecy that he will become King.  Consumed by ambition and his wife prods him into action, he decides to kill King Duncan.  When Duncan visits him, Macbeth kills him with a dagger, and becomes King.

Macbeth is restless about the witches' prophecy that Banquo's heirs will be kings.  He hires three murderers to kill Banquo and his son Fleance.  Luckily, Fleance escapes but sadly Banquo dies.  He then goes back to the witches who tell him to beware Macduff.  Now, this revelation sets him off again.  He becomes threatened by Macduff and he kills his family whilst Macduff flees to England.

Meanwhile, Lady Macbeth commits suicide because of her guilt.  Macduff joins forces with Malcolm, Duncan's son, and march towards Macbeth's castle.  Macduff confronts Macbeth and asks him to surrender, but Macbeth refuses and vows to fight to the end.  Macduff kills Macbeth and peace is once more restored to Scotland.  Malcolm is crowned King of Scotland.
