Born a slave near the end of the Civil War, George Washington Carver was a small and sickly child.

He developed his love of nature in his early years and later qualified as a teacher and scientist at the Alabama Tuskegee Institute in the 1900s. he gained fame for his work helping farmers grow better crops while sharing with them his close appreciation of nature.
