The Yoruba are a Nation in South Western Nigeria, parts of Benin and Togo. In their religion, the Orisha are sprits sent by Olodumare (he who dwells in the heavens) for the
guidance of all creation and humanity on Earth (Aiye). Most Orisha have either existed in the spirit world and then become incarnated as human beings on Earth, or humans who are recognised as deities 
upon death due to their extraordinary feats in life.

Closely associated with Vodoun of the Fon and Ewe, the Yoruba religion is also practised in the New World as a result of the Atlantic slave trade and are now expressed as Santeria, Candomble, Trinidad Orisha, Umbanda, and Oyotunji, among others.
