This is the third edition of a concise explanation of basic statistical methods, which demonstrates the importance and application of statistics in such fields as finance, economics and management.

Data collection, index numbers and time-series analysis are covered, and worked examples and exercises are included throughout. The first 11 units deal with the techniques required by most introductory course, including BTEC National, GCSE and first professional courses.

They will also be relevant to GNVQ students in the context of Application of Number core skill work.

Data collection, index numbers (including the construction of the Retail Prices Index), and time-series analysis are particularly thoroughly covered.

The following six units contain material essential for more advanced courses and a discussion of Interest and Investment Appraisal which should be especially useful to students of business and accountancy. This third edition brings updated data and figures and a wider variety of graphical presentation of statistical information is introduced.

In particular, the final unit on Computers and Statistics has been expanded and updated to take account of recent developments in the field.

New sample questions from examination papers have been added to most units.
