This book focuses on the study of the dynamics of production, distribution and consumption of pottery in the North of Tuscany (Italy) between town and country in the late Middle Ages (11th - 14th century).

In particular this volume presents data from the archaeological excavations of the Laboratori Gentili, in the center of Pisa, and of the village of San Genesio, in the middle of the Arno valley (San Miniato-Pi).

These are two new important archaeological contexts: at Laboratori Gentili the largest amount of Islamic pottery ever found in this city was unearthed, allowing the author to redefine types and histories of these productions; at San Genesio, an important village built around a parish church was investigated.

This volume uses the resulting ceramic data to define the economic phenomena of production, distribution and consumption, related to different settlement types (urban and rural), and social contexts of use (aristocrats, artisans, clergy, peasants).
