This video series is designed as a medium for teaching research, offering viewers a perspective on current nursing research, illustrating its process, practice, and importance.

Each production in the series profiles prominent nurse researchers who detail the goals, methods, outcomes and implications of their long-term research.

Each volume features timely and interesting research in an inviting presentation that instils an appreciation for nursing research that reflects its increased emphasis in improving health care; a brief personal introduction to the researcher, biographical profile, goals of the research, a summary of the research findings and implications for future research provide viewers with an understanding of the research process and topics presented in each video.

The series introduces researchers as real people, and portrays their research as ongoing and tangible, providing students with a solid understanding of what research is, and high-quality videos come packaged in plastic cassette cases for convenience and easy storage. Volume 1 profiles Dorothy Brooten, PhD, RN, FAAN, Professor and Chair of the Health Care of Women and Childbearing Division in the School of Nursing and Director of the Graduate Programmes in Perinatal Nursing at the University of Pennsylvania.

Dr. Brooten is also Director of the Centre for Low-Birthweight Research at the university and is a renowned authority on low-birthweight infants and their families.

Her current work involves identifying families at risk and analyzing the benefitsof sending clinical nurse specialists into the homes of women delivering low-birthweight infants.
