"Discrimination Law" is edited by Malcolm Sargeant.

This accessible new textbook provides an overview of the rapidly expanding area of Discrimination Law - the law which deals with the problems of discrimination against particular groups.

The book covers the long-standing areas of Discrimination Law, such as sex, race and equal pay.

It also covers more recent discrimination law, including disability and law relating to the family, as well as those measures which result from the Equal Treatment in Employment Directive, such as discrimination on the grounds of sexual orientation and religion or belief.

Future initiatives on age discrimination in employment are also considered.

The importance of the EU and the international context is also recognised with specific chapters on these subjects.

Edited by Malcolm Sargeant, an expert in employment and discrimination law, the book aims to be both descriptive and reflective.

After setting the book in the context of a population that is both diverse and changing, the book begins with chapters on the influence of EU law and international law. Each area of discrimination is then considered separately, with chapters on sex and race, equal pay, disability, the family, religion or belief, age and, finally discrimination concerning trade unionists.

Further reading is also suggested. The key features are: a comprehensive introduction to discrimination law chapters on new areas of legislation, such as religion or belief, and age written by experts in the different fields.

Malcolm Sargeant is a Reader in Employment Law at Middlesex University Business School.

He has authored and contributed to a number of books, journals and other publications on employment law subjects, for both students and practitioners.
