British cinema in the 1960s : an educational resource

The British New Wave of the 1960s broke the mould of British filmmaking and bequeathed a huge legacy to subsequent film and television.

This photocopiable guide, aimed primarily at teachers and students of film studies, introduces the cultural background of the New Wave in Britain and complements the BFI's re-release on video and DVD of three key British New Wave films: "Saturday Night and Sunday Morning", "A Taste of Honey" and "The Loneliness of the Long Distance Runner".This educational resource, provided on a CD-ROM, covers topics including studies in world cinema, critical research study on women in film, texts and contexts in the media, representations and reception.

It also provides essential insights and background material to support the study of English literature of the 1960s, in particular the texts which inspired these films.
