It includes expanded coverage of maternal-newborn home care in response to shorter hospital stays and greater emphasis on care in the home throughout the childbearing experience.

This edition retains its student-accessible style and includes pedagogical elements designed to test student's content knowledge and critical thinking skills.

Case studies and reality-based nursing planning and intervention are helpful in imagining practical situations for the student, and the cultural background and family involvement in the nursing of the client are important themes integrated throughout the text.
