This moving novel explores the life of a young Pakistani man in Great Britain as he grapples with what it means to be a foreigner and what it takes to call a place "home." Centered on Saleem's visit to Pakistan to visit his ailing mother, this novel traces his internal journey to come to terms with how his Pakistani identity conflicts with his ability to live safely and with integrity in Great Britain.

Saleem finds that although racism and criminalization are only skin-deep, redemption must come from within himself and the life he left behind.
