At the age of 46, philosopher and university professor Helmut Dubiel was diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease.

Eventually, the illness got so bad that he decided to undergo deep brain stimulation surgery.

Following the operation, Dubiel found himself in possession of a peculiar power: he could now choose between more than one personality.

Deep in the Brain describes Dubiel's battle between the inclination to give up and the force necessary to reinvent himself and, eventually, rise above his illness.
