Sophie Freeman is the editor for this edition of 'Higgledy Piggledy Jazz' for alto saxophone with a play along CD.

She performed jazz in theatres, concert halls and festivals both nationally and internationally with a host of amazing performers ranging from James Galway, PJ Proby, Gerry Marsden & the Pacemakers and Fred Wesley, who played trombone with James Brown's JB Horns.

She played blues with Sherman Robertson, Earl Thomas, Big Band Jazz and the late Jack Parnell.

Sophie played classical with Il Divo and she supported Grace Jones, the Scissor Sisters and Blondie at the Lovebox Festival whilst on tour with Marc Almond from Soft Cell.

Sophie says:' When I am not on the road I also teach and I find this book a great source to use for Grade 1 - 4 standard players.

There are lots of ways to use the book: firstly, play it as written and then add your own solo in the sections marked using the scales provided.

If, by chance, you happen to use other notes in your solos and you think they sound good, that's excellent, keep them in.

Try playing along to the tracks and improvising the whole way through. The ultimate challenge is to memorise the melody, improvise in the sections marked and perform to an audience. Perhaps your friend can play the piano, and if you know a guitarist and bass player, get them involved too.

Then you will be on your way to your first gig'.
