First published in 1921, the "Joy Street" books brought together some of the greatest writers and illustrators of the 1920s and 30s in a treasury of fantastical short stories and poems for children.

These superior quality books featured classic children's authors from Eleanor Farjeon and Rose Fyleman to A A Milne and Hugh Chesterman.

Also featured were writers more commonly remembered for their adult fiction, such as "Whisky Galore's" Compton MacKenzie, and illustrators including Maxwell Armfield, Thomas Derrick, and Irene Mountfort.

With their stories of pixies and dragons, talking spoons that fall in love with flighty forks, and lions and elephants that come to tea, the authors of the "Joy Street" stories wrote about fantasy worlds as a means for children to forget about the difficult times of post-war depression.

Each story has it's own wisdom and will bring pleasure today to children and adults alike, making "Joy Street" the perfect Christmas gift.
