The papers in this volume seek to examine the role of archaeological ceramics in the social processes of past societies, specifically with respect to the formulation and re-formulation of cultural practices.

They also offer critical discussion with respect to the limitations of various theoretical approaches to the study of archaeological ceramics.

The case studies focus on various South American contexts.
