Devon Inventories of the 16th & 17th Centuries

This volume transcribes 266 probate inventories from sixteenth- and seventeenth-century Devon which survived the destruction of the Exeter Probate Registry in 1942.

They tell us much about the lives and wealth of a range of Devon's early modern inhabitants, including yeomen, tradesman, and a few gentry, clergy and labourers, and will interest scholars of early modern social and economic history.
