Cat is Just a Cat and That is That. But, he is a bold and adventurous chap and when he sees Bird glide past him he longs for the freedom and possibility of exploration that Bird's wings could provide. `How fancy and free, Oh why not me' he exclaims. The other animals witnessing Cat's exclamation, frog, cow, dog and horse mock and dismiss his desire with a tut.

But out of the blue Bird, a natural adversary, after agreeing with the others that cats don't fly, wills him to try and lends him his wings.

So Cat's imaginative spree of adventure begins and we witness a not entirely successful flight of a non-flying creature. He revels in his gifted spontaneous skill but takes it too far as he begins to chase birds in the sky ignoring a dark storm approaching.

As he grapples with the storm his fur becomes wet and soggy and he falls from the sky in a humiliating fashion. Poor Cat recovers himself after his dramatic fall from the sky, `quick in motion, into the ocean', and we are led to believe that he is remorseful and contrite.

After all he is just a Cat! We sense Cat's vulnerability as we hear the jeers from the other animals as if to say `I told you so'. But the adventurous spark returns and a fish catches his eye gliding through the water.

The reader is now primed for Book 2, `Cat Wants Fins' in which Cat embarks on another adventure , this time deep in the ocean.
