In 1963, two groups of young people, inspired by such ideals as Kennedy's "Ask not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country", train as teachers and nurses.

As they make their way along their own 'road to freedom', the events of those years affect their determination to create a better educated, culturally aware, politically conscious, morally alert and more tolerant country.

The students experience the changes that shape events: Nelson Mandela in South Africa, Martin Luther King in the United States, politicians, religious leaders and cultural icons throughout the world.
