Social Care and HIV-AIDS

Based on a two-year study carried out by the Universities of Hull and York, this report examines in detail the need for social care for HIV infected individuals.

It focuses on the issues affecting the demand for and supply of services in the community - a subject of topical importance in light of the reforms of community care in the UK.

A continued growth in the numbers with HIV infection and a further shift in the location of care from hospital to the community will have consequences for the operation of the community care market.

The report looks both at the services provided formally by local authority social service departments, voluntary and private agencies and at the wider spectrum of social care provided informally by relatives, partners and friends.
