International nomenclature of diseases : Vol. 6: Metabolic, nutritional, and endocrine disorders

Providing a dictionary of more than 750 metabolic, nutritional and endocrine disorders, this book has each disorder entered under a single recommended name, concisely defined and accompanied by a list of synonyms.

The nomenclature spans a number of highly specialized disciplines, and is intended to encourage greater consistency in medical reporting and, through its list of synonyms, to facilitate information of retrieval and literature searches. Throughout the volume, names used for enzymes, vitamins and peptide hormones are consistent with those recommended by the International Union of Biochemistry (IUB).

For the convenience of readers who may not be familiar with some of these names, the volume includes a list of the IUB-recommended names, accompanied by other names frequently found in the literature.

The book concludes with a 100-page index which lists all recommended names and synonyms.
