"Intermediate Latin" is a textbook for those making the transition from reading the 'made-up' sentences of Latin primers to translating the actual texts of ancient authors.

Part I outlines and revises the grammatical concepts by explaining them with reference first to English before applying them to the Latin language.

Each of the ten chapters ends with authentic Latin sentences and stories from ancient authors as exercises.

Part II presents selections from Livy's history of early Rome, with running vocabulary and notes to help the student.

Glossaries and appendices on Roman poetry, history, and geography complete the volume and make it a self-contained Latin course.

It is illustrated with watercolours of Roman buildings from across the Empire, specially prepared by Sheila Gibson.
