Rueben has finally found a home, with his cousin Dr Brittlebank.

His nightmarish ordeal at the hands of the demonic Flyte is over - now that Flyte is lying at the bottom of Hal's Canyon, surely dead.

Meanwhile Reuben and Brittlebank set off on a home visit to see a Lady Egmont, who has recently miscarried, and longs for another child.

When Reuben stumbles across the hideously malformed boy Gabriel, chained up in the grounds of Egmont Hall, he is appalled, and curious.

Could this poor idiot boy be Lady Egmont's 'lost'child?

Before he can ask questions of the hall servants, he comes face to face with his nemesis, Flyte, who somehow managed to crawl his way out of the pit and rise from the dead.

Flyte is determined to wreak his revenge, and before he knows it Reuben is on the run again, together with poor Gabriel.

Will Flyte manage to catch Reuben and imprison him for ever this time. Or will an older, wiser Reuben outwit home once and for all.
