Edexcel IGCSE in English as a Second Language (ESL) Vocabulary : Classified English Vocabulary According CEFR

The Edexcel International GCSE in English as a Second Language (ESL) is designed as a qualification for either students obtaining their secondary education through English as a medium of instruction, or studying English in order to enhance their future educational or employment prospects.

Achievement in this qualification is benchmarked against the Council of Europe's Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). The framework has been developed as a design tool. Please refer to the Council of Europe website for more information. This examination series targets a range of abilities; from level B1 (intermediate) to C1 (advanced) of the CEFR.


Based on our many years' experience in HSK and IGCSE Chinese teaching and course contents preparation, we find vocabulary level classification is so important. Students can use CEFR levels for self-assessment so that they can more clearly define what they need to work on, and work out what they would like to achieve in their target language.
