A Poem for Every Year 3 Maths Lesson : Matched to the KS2, Year 3 Curriculum

This book contains a different poem linked to every National Curriculum Year 3 standard.

Just open up the contents, find the part of the curriculum you are teaching, and select the poem you would like!

Many children say the same thing: I love reading and writing, but I cannot do maths. Well, I ask, why does Maths have to be completely different to reading and writing? Why not start every Maths lesson with a poem?

Each poem does three things:

1) Introduces the maths standard and explains the meaning/ vocabulary,
2) Gives an example and works through it.
3) Is enjoyable to read!

The poems can be used to start of lesson, or become the lesson themselves. Some are tricky and have been designed to go well with a whiteboard and enquiring minds.

Mathematics is beautiful.

Poetry is beautiful.

Why not combine the two?
