Author takes us on several journeys in his epic attempt to understand both the western and the eastern philosophies of life; philosophies of life; beginning in America with a group of intellectuals, the novel's protagonists must go to India to seek out the ancient translation of human spirituality into the temples, rituals and architecture as well as the religious groups who groups who channel this into a modern-day life-style in ashrams and other faith centres.

Author, an Indian who now lives in America, must confront his past in order to accept the present and ultimately make a leap into the future - one which contains a woman who he must learn to love if he is to attain the happiness he so furiously debates and ultimately seeks.

He must learn about the Hindu, the Muslim, the Jain, the Buddhist, the ascetic, the guru, about those who find peace only in nature, and about those who have seemingly learnt to defy the laws of gravity through yoga and meditation. The author amasses the entirety of his life's experience in order to suggest the essential synthesis of human religious bringing man's search into a universal, yet at once deeply personal perspective.

It is his search - and so becomes ours.
