The end of the 20th century has witnessed the increasing "dismantling" of political structures or entities and trade barriers which has facilitated the free movement of information, people, goods and investments.

This book addresses the issues of the "borderless" world from several perspectives, largely that of geographers but including development, environment, international relations and boundary experts.

Based on national and regional case studies, it focuses on the political, social, economic and environmental impact and implications as well as adaptive strategies to cope with the new geographic phenomenon of this 21st century regionalization.

The book largely represents a selection of papers presented at the Commonwealth Geographical Bureau Conference bearing the same title as the book.

This conference was organized by the department of geography, University of Malaya in August 1996.
