An introductory chapter explains the arrangement of the information and the conventions that are used for spelling, foreign diction and uncommon monetary symbols and abbreviations.

The major section, the dictionary, provides historical and orthographical information for all monetary systems according to country.

Countries are arranged alphabetically from Afghanistan to Zimbabwe.

Chronologies address the evolution of each unit over the last 100 to 150 years and are accompanied by a brief historical narrative of the unit's respective country or confederation. Orthographies summarize the commonly accepted English spelling of singular and plural forms of monetary units.

A glossary provides etymologies and descriptions of over 250 monetary units. The work is augmented with six useful appendices, including a guide to major foreign language number systems, an alphabetized review of the more than 250 monetary units covered in the book and the countries associated with them, an outline of the families of monetary units, a list of more than 340 standard monetary abbreviations and symbols, two tables summarizing the ISO-4217 currency codes, and a list of current central banks and their associated internet sites.
