This reference work compiled by film writers celebrates the achievements of those considered to have made a significant contribution to the art of film-making.

Featuring personalities, directors, producers and other important players, each of the 1000 entries has a concise biography with the individual's dates, a photograph, cartoon or poster illustration and information on the films they worked on, awards won, and other aspects of their work.

The listings span the globe and the original "Oscar" has his own entry.

At the back of the book is a filmfinder with each star or director's most notable films and the year of release. "Movietalk", a glossary, accompanies the filmfinder, explaining terminology from Absolute films to wrap parties.
