This manual on chancery practice is one of a series of materials for the Bar Vocational Course, placing considerable emphasis on the learning of legal skills.

The text is divided into property disputes, landlord and tenant and company law.

Within each of these areas, the text is wide ranging, covering legal principles, providing sample drafts and exercises, together with practical guidance on the conduct of cases.

The contents of each section differs, but all have the common objective of providing a base for the young barrister going into practice in the chancery area.

Although chancery work is identified as a distinct area of legal practice, there is inevitably a very wide range in the work that may be done by individual chancery practitioners.

This manual seeks to provide a broad foundation for the main areas of chancery work on which the barrister can build in early practice.

The "Property disputes" section covers a wide area, including aspects of disputes over land ownership and third-party rights, co-ownership, breach of trust and other trust actions and breach of confidence actions.

This section presumes a general knowledge of basuc trusts and land law. The "Landlord and tenant" section provides an overview of the law, and concentrates on those areas in which a young barrister is particularly likely to be involved, including outlines for particular types of application and checklists.

The "Company law" section covers the main areas of the subject, with particular emphasis on those aspects which are most frequently met in the early years of practice.
