The Nene Valley Railway was the first line into Peterborough in 1845, and formed a long branch from the London and Birmingham Railway at Blisworth along the river valley via Northampton, Wellingborough, Irthlingborough, Thrapston and Oundle.

The line closed in 1964, but the preserved section at the Peterborough end keeps the memory alive.
