Since the beginning of time the dreams of ancient peoples have included strange gods, fantastic beasts, and heroes both good and bad.

The stories peoples made up about their deeds tended to include these characters as they attempted to explain the mysteries of nature - the rising and setting of the sun, the changing of the seasons, and the dumb beasts.
