The I can do maths Teacher's Guide explains how Schofield & Sims' Mental Arithmetic books can be used in schools as a scheme of work, highly effective in raising attainment levels.

The approach was pioneered by Andrew Dunn (former head teacher at Coatham Primary School in the North East of England) using the Mental Arithmetic books as a daily maths practice session, with impressive results: in 2003 Coatham was recognised as one of the 50 most improved primary schools in England and, in 2004/5, was recognised by OFSTED as being one of the 50 top performing schools.

The I can do maths Teacher's Guide includes: creating 'number-happy' pupils within a whole-school culture of achievement, guidance on how to implement and organise the system (including routines and marking), carrying out baseline entry tests (and evaluating results), photocopiable test, group record sheet and a documentary CD-ROM.
