NIACE asked people with learning difficulties in the UK what they thought was important about learning and being students.

People with learning difficulties from over 100 adult education centres, colleges, day centres, user groups and People First groups in England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland responded.

Their replies were used as the basis of "The Charter for Learning and the Our Right to Learn pack". "The Charter for Learning" has twelve charter points that include points on bullying, good teaching, enjoying learning and support.

Each of the charter points is discussed by people with learning difficulties in the pack.

Direct quotes are used as much as possible throughout the pack with comments and ideas from people with learning difficulties themselves.

Examples of good practice of education provision for students with learning difficulties are described in the pack.

At the end of each chapter there are questions for staff and students to think about.

A word bank explains and words that may be hard to understand.

There is an action plan for staff and students who are working together to change things and a list of questions for managers. Fully illustrated, the pack includes an audio-tape version of the pack and an A3 colour poster of the Charter for Learning.

The pack is for people with learning difficulties and staff who work with them in education, social services, health trusts and voluntary organisations.
