While the original Fenians were a secretive republican organisation founded by John O'Mahony, this volume seeks to broaden that moniker and to reclaim what for centuries has been used by oppressors and occupiers as a term of abuse to demean those who believe in a free Ireland.

It is also an attempt to give readers a taste of the literary talent of our finest patriotic writers.From speeches in the dock and poems to extracts from memoirs and moral novels, Irish patriots produced some of the finest Irish writing.
