"Emma", originally published in 1816, was the last novel which Jane Austen lived to see through the press, and combines all the qualities for which she is most admired - irony, wit, realism, vivid characterization, moral seriousness and great control of tone and narrative method.

This edition of the text is edited by James Kinsley from R.W.Chapman's Oxford edition, and has a new bibliography by Margaret Anne Doody.

The introduction is written by David Lodge, author of "Changing Places", "Small World" and "Nice Work".
