The long awaited fifth volume in a collection of key practices for pattern languages and design.

This title is a part of John Vlissides "Software Patterns Series".

Patterns are on the rise! In 2005, three of the four books considered as finalists for 15th Annual Jolt book awards were about patterns.

All patterns featured have been presented at recent PLoP conferences.

It has been more than a decade since the first Pattern Languages of Program (PLoP) Conference was held in 1994, and since the first PLoPD Volume was published in 1995 yet the development of software related patterns is still going strong.

This is the fifth volume in the "Software Patterns Series", a series of books documenting patterns for professional software developers.

Like the volumes before, this book showcases state-of-the-art practices in the patterns community.

It compiles the best work from some of the brightest minds in this community and all work has been presented at the most recent Patterns Languages of Design conferences.

The community surrounding on Software Patterns is a small, but very focused one.The authors explain in their preface: "Over these past ten years, the community of patterns investigators has built a true fellowship which is rare for our field.

I believe this association has helped many strong but unknown practitioners grow their careers to international acclaim, and in the same way, many university students have become industry leaders.

One might argue that the search for patterns attracted people destined to become leaders, but I prefer to think that the habit of looking at our work for great wisdom makes us into wise and respected leaders."
