Leaves of Grass is the magnum opus by American poet Walt Whitman (1819-1892), each poem of which representing the celebration of life and humanity. Whitman spent most of his life writing and rewriting Leaves of Grass, revising it multiple times, which resulted in different editions. The book is notable for how it addresses sensual pleasures in a time when such candid displays were seen as immoral. It was highly controversial for its explicit sexual imagery. However, over the years this work entered popular culture and was recognized as one of the main ones of American poetry.
