English 7-11 : Developing Primary Teaching Skills

The National Curriculum for English still makes a variety of new demands on primary teachers.

This book focuses on contexts for, and approaches to, the teaching of primary English at Key Stage 2, in the context of the National Curriculum.

Through a series of guided activities, teachers are encouraged to examine their own classrooms as environments for language and literacy development and to reflect upon particular teaching strategies and activities.

Key issues covered by the six units include: an analysis of language and literacy; the processes of language and literacy; the use of topic work; a critical look at classroom environments; an examination of the texts which children read and write; and a discussion of the role of the teacher.

This work is aimed at individual teachers who wish to develop their own classroom practice in language and literacy teaching, and schools who wish to use it as a basis for their in-service work.
