In the appendix, there is a full account of Tait's funeral.

Ross then quotes from the obituary in the Literary Churchman that there was still something of the headmaster in Tait when he became Archbishop and that this was not to the liking of his fellow bishops.

Yet beneath his 'apparently austere and even repellent manner, the archbishop was in reality one of the most benevolent the most engaging of men.'
