British treaties are probably better chronicled in print than those of any nation with as long a history.

Going back to the early 12th century, beyond the epoch of the first treaties of alliance with Portugal, their scale by the end of the 17th century was already so extensive that the first official collection, published by Thomas Rymer, the Historiographer Royal, in 1704-17, filled no less than 17 volumes.

The first three volumes of the "Index of British Treaties" covered the years from 1101-1968 and provided, for the first time, a complete consolidated index to the Treaty Series of the United Kingdom, which began in 1892.

This volume, the fourth in the series, covers the period 1969-1988.

It builds on the previous three volumes, updating and expanding them, and will continue to meet the need of historians and international lawyers for such a reference work. 21 microfiches are included showing "Volumes 1-3, Treaties 1101-1968".
