Plain Language Pediatric Patient Education : Handouts for Common Pediatric Topics

Studies show that nearly half of all adults have trouble understanding basic health information.

With the goal of improving parent and patient health literacy, the AAP has developed this compendium of 25 reproducible, plain language handouts.

With need-to-know information up front and a user-friendly layout, the handouts in this compendium include pronunciation guides, simple and purposeful illustrations, lower reading levels, and minimal medical jargon.

The handout topics include: ADHD; asthma; bedwetting; bronchiolitis; calcium; colds; constipation; croup; ear infections; fever; developmental milestones; the flu; gastroenteritis; medication; oral health; smoking; and, temper tantrums.
