Sports History

Once winners started to be recorded Sports History began.

Academic Sports History, however, was much longer in coming and there was no concerted productivity in the field till the 1970s.

Two strands developed: one out of Physical Education whose practitioners mainly saw Sports History as facts and stories about past performances; the other started by historians and focusing on the social—matters of gender, ethnicity, identity, and class.
